Social Media: Event Reporting

There are three “sides” to events and their promotion on social media: Before, During, and After. An easy favorite of mine is curating images from an event for the “after” social media post and storytelling. Most channels limit the number of images per post, so good storytelling requires judicious selection and a critical, photographic editor’s eye.

It really is a “kill your darlings” editorial exercise, with a forced choice of the best images that tell the best possible story, not a selection of favorite images that simply showcase the event of your ability as a photographer.

Arguably, the highlight of the year at any law school is the official bar swearing-in ceremony, where graduates gather again as classmates for a final, formal and essential act–taking the oath as lawyers. Each year, the challenge is to create a social media post that best captures the spirit of the graduated class, the prestige and formality of the event and to share the joy of the moment with the broader social media audience.
